Bartels serves on the Appropriations Committee and the Joint Committee on Appropriations in the House of Representatives. He was first elected in 2017 and has served on other committees during his tenure. He served as Chair on the House Retirement Laws Committee and also served on the Legislative Executive Board.
Bartels was in banking for over 37 years and served as the President of Reliabank in Watertown for many years before retiring. Bartels also held employment as the Deputy Director of Securities and Banking for the State of South Dakota.
Serving in the House of Representatives, Bartels says he feels that he has done what is right for the residents of District 5 and the State of South Dakota.
Bartels says that during his time in the House of Representatives he’s had some great accomplishments; one of those includes finding funding for Lake Area Technical Institute….
Bartels has been active in the Arrow Education Foundation, BISCO, Watertown Kiwanis and the Elks as well as others. He also served on the Watertown School Board. He is married and has three grown children.
