The City of Watertown will, for the first time, contract for supply of E-30 to be used exclusively in the city fleet of vehicles. The bid was awarded to Sioux Valley Coop. This includes all vehicles in all city departments. E-30 fuel is 30% ethanol blended with gasoline. Ethanol is produced in Watertown at the Glacial Lakes Energy plan using corn grown by area farmers. Mayor Caron said the action taken by the council was a formal action and it was the right thing to do.….
Watertown City Engineer Heath Von Eye says Sioux Valley Coop with be awarded the bid after an agreement was reached for 6 cents off per gallon.
Glacial Lakes Energy has done an enormous amount of research on using E30. The testing process has shown that E-30 blends can actually increase available horsepower and torque with fuel economy being maintained or just slightly changed, depending on the vehicle.
In a prepared release to KXLG News, Mayor Caron says that GLE processes millions of bushels of corn at their facilities in Watertown, Mina, Aberdeen and Huron, generating Hundreds of millions of gallons of ethanol. All of that, she says, supports family farmers, local businesses, local school districts and our communities.
Caron said, “I urge everyone to support our area farmers and local economy by using E-30 Fuel, It’s the right thing to do.”
