Governor Kristi Noem

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem delivered her State of the State Address Tuesday afternoon in Pierre.  The Governor said she remains committed to the four pillars of protection for all South Dakotans……

Noem directed some of her comments at business’ looking at relocating to South Dakota....

Governor Noem highlighted successes that she has had in making South Dakota state government more accountable and transparent and also more technologically connected than ever before.  Noem outlined a road map last year on how the state was going to achieve high-speed broadband connectivity and Tuesday she provided an update on the Connect South Dakota Program to lawmakers……

Noem’s 2021 budget did not include increases in education, providers or state employees. She says that finding dollars to support those areas remains her #1 priority.

The value of South Dakota Colleges and Technical Schools were a big part of the Governors address. She emphasized the value of colleges like Dakota State University in Madison….

Noem also spoke on the value of technical education in South Dakota and the Build Dakota Scholarship……

Before closing her address, Governor Noem recognized six law enforcement officers for their heroism.  Sturgis Police Officers Dylan Goetsch and Christopher Schmoker entered a burning house in Sturgis in 2018 and pulled the homeowner out minutes before the building collapsed, ultimately saving the homeowners life. The Governor also recognized four officers from the Chamberlain area who carried survivors hundred of yards through the snow to safety after a plane crash in November. 

Noem has created a new award called the "Governor’s Award for Heroism" which she presented to all six officers.
