Watertown Holiday Lighted Parade

The official start to the holiday season kicked off in Downtown Watertown Friday night with the annual holiday lighted parade. Several thousand people lined the streets braving the cold weather to enjoy the 37 floats this year.  Kay Solberg is one of the event organizers, Paul Taecker is the other. Taecker and Solberg have been organizing the event for the past 17 years. Solberg says that the parade has been a Watertown tradition for 23 years.

Solberg says although the route has changed a little over the years, it's always had one destination in mind and that was Jenkins Living Center.....

Solberg says the success of this years event centered around many different  community organizations and groups like the members of the Business Improvement District as well as many others....

And speaking of prizes; there were several winners Friday night each taking home a $100 cash prize and a certificate.  Those winners included...

Grand Marshall - Active Heating

Mayors Choice - Crestone Builders

Best Use of Lights - Snowmobile Club

Best Use of Music - Glacial Lakes Veterinary Clinic

Best Use of the Theme - Jenkins Living Center

WBA Choice - Dakota Bodies

Best Float with Children - Nikki Fuller

There is always one special guest that takes time out of his schedule to be in the parade each and every year and that is Santa Claus. While speaking to Kay, I had to ask one more question.....

Well, maybe next year......
