The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues its investigation today into a fatal two-vehicle accident that occurred south of Mound City. A 2004 Peterbilt Semi with a 30 foot-wide load was northbound on U.S. Highway 83. A Southbound 2014 International semi-truck and trailer struck the left front corner of the Northbound Peterbilt’s wide load. The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured in the crash.
The driver of the International sustained fatal injures and was deceased at the scene. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
KXLG news has confirmed that the wide load was a house that had been built in Watertown and was being transported to Herried, South Dakota at the time of the crash. Names of those involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.
Both Herried and Mound City are located in Campbell County.
