Heavy fog was reported in the area at time, reduced visibility and played a factor in the crashes. Highway Patrol investigated.

The Chevy Silverado pickup was southbound on SD Highway 25 and attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle in a No Passing Zone. The pickup collided head-one with the northbound Honda Civic. The collision pushed the Civic off the roadway. The pickup became disabled, blocking both lanes. Shortly after that, the southbound Impala entered the area and hit the pickup. That impact pushed the pickup off the roadway and the Impala rolled several times becoming disabled in the southbound lane. A short while later, the southbound KiA entered the and struck the Impala. The collision pushed the Impala down the roadway and caused the KIA to roll multiple times before entering the east ditch.
