Brookings Police say they have arrested a 19 year-old man after they received a report of a video that was posted on social media showing him torturing and killing an injured cat.
Police say that Michael Forman of Brookings was interviewed by officers and subsequently arrested Wednesday afternoon. Forman has been charged with animal cruelty which is a Class 6 Felony, punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a $4,000 fine. The actual incident occurred in Hamlin County so charges will be filed there.
Assistant Chief of Police Derrick Powers says police received a lot of notifications about the video, which has been described as very disturbing.
Police say the male was taken transported to the Brookings County Jail and released to their custody. His bond was set at $2,000 cash or surety. Brookings County Jail staff tell KXLG news that he has bonded out of jail.
