Codington County added one new COVID-19 related death on Saturday, bringing the county death toll to three since the pandemic began. On Sunday, the Department of Health reported 24 new COVID-19 in the county, bringing our local active case count to 189.
Since the pandemic began in March, Codington County has had 706 positive cases of COVID-19. 514 of those cases have recovered.
On Sunday, the South Dakota Department of Health reported 252 new COVID-19 cases statewide. In addition to those cases, two new deaths were reported bringing the state's total death count to 202. Both new deaths are men from Minnehaha County in their 70’s and 80’s.
As of Sunday afternoon, there are 2,843 active cases and 170 patients that are currently hospitalized with the virus.
The Department of Health also reports that 5% of ICU beds in South Dakota are currently occupied by COVID-19 patients. 66% of ICU beds are being occupied by non-COVID-19 patients leaving 29% of ICU beds in South Dakota available.
