An 18 year-old Minnesota man has been identified as the driver who struck the back end of a northbound vehicle on I-29 North of Watertown last Wednesday evening, resulting in fatal injuries to the other driver.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, Dalton DeYonge of Slayton, Minnesota was driving a 2011 Chevrolet 2500 pickup when he collided with a 1969 Ford Mustang driven by 58 year-old, Charles Slettedahl of Stockholm, SD.
Both vehicles were northbound on I-29 at Mile Marker 184 at the time of the collision. The mustang entered the east ditch and rolled. Slettedahl was pronounced dead at the scene. DeYonge was not injured in the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt, Slettedahl was wearing his seatbelt according to authorities. The crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
