Watertown Fire Rescue was called at 345pm for a fire in an exhaust unit at Dynamic Engineering located at 221 Cessna Street today. Upon arrival found that all the employees had evacuated safely and some were attempting to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers. The fire was located in an exhaust venting unit that collects and filters smoke from welders. Firefighters took over and extinguished the fire quickly with an attack line after the extinguishers were found not to be enough to extinguish the fire.

The fire was contained the the unit itself and accountability of all employees was completed with no injuries. The cause is under investigation. The strong north winds were causing problems by forcing all the smoke into the middle of the building instead of letting it escape the building, which initially caused the whole building to fill with smoke. Eventually the smoke was cleared and the unit was isolated and found no fire extension to the rest of the building or machines.

Watertown Fire Rescue would like to encourage everyone to have an effect safety evacuation plan and practice it annually. This business did a great job following their evacuation plan and accounting for all of their employees. WFR was on scene for approximately 1 hour and no injuries were reported.
