Pride

Watertown, SD --  Watertown Pride In The Park organizer Amy Rambow says 2019 marks 50 years since the first Pride Parade was held in New York City in 1969. Since then she says, "we’ve learned that our strength lies in our diversity, as public acceptance of our LGBTQ+ friends and family have grown by leaps and bounds."

In that spirit Rambow says Watertown will be celebrating its first-ever PRIDE in the Park event this year. it will take place from 11am to 3pm Saturday, June 29, at McKinley Park, Watertown. Rambow says, "there would be games, food, music, and most importantly, a judgment-free space to relax and take PRIDE in who you are." She says Watertown LOVE is inviting the public to the inaugural Pride celebration.

“It can feel isolating to be LGBTQ+ in a small town,” says Rev. Tom Emanuel, the minister of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Watertown. “But the gift of communities like Watertown is that we really know how to support each other. This is a tremendous opportunity for us to come together and let our neighbors know that they are not alone, that they are loved and accepted, exactly as they are.”

Watertown LOVE is a group for LGBTQ+ youth, adults and their allies in and around the Watertown, SD area. For more information, including vendor inquiries, contact Amy Rambow at the number 605-520-2127
