A Florence High School Senior has won a nationwide contest and will receive a $2,500 grant to help the town of Florence become just a little bit nicer for those moving into the community. 

Eighteen-year-old Jacey Orthaus won the award which was sponsored by Pop-Tarts and the United Way. Orthaus submitted her application along with ideas on how she could help improve her town and bring about positive change.  So, with just two days before the deadline, she quickly got to work on her project. Orthaus said it was a good friend that convinced her to apply…... 

Orthaus will receive a $2,500 grant, which she will use to implement her project idea…... 

The contest was open to all students between the ages of 13 and 22.  Sarah Reinecke, the Director of Brand Marketing for Pop-Tarts, said “Pop-Tarts wants to empower young people to use their creativity and curiosity to drive change in the community.”  

Orthaus says she plans to attend the University of Minnesota- Mankato pursuing a degree in business after she graduates this year.
