Four semi tractor trailers were involved in a crash on Highway 14, one mile west of Arlington. It happened at 6:38 Tuesday morning. According to the South Dakota Deparmtent of Public Safety, an eastbound semi driven by 21-year-old Joshua Waldner of Huron crossed the centerline into the westbound lane. There were three semi tractor-trailers headed west as a group. The Waldner truck struck the first two westbound semi-tractors and the trailer of the third semi. After the collision, the Waldner vehicle burst into flames. Both lanes of traffic were blocked, requiring a highway shutdown to clean up debris and tow the semis and trailers. The Waldner truck and trailer was a total loss. Also total losses were two of the westbound trucks and all three trailers.

Waldner was taken by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt and charges against him are pending.

The driver of one of the other semis received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The three drivers traveling as a group were all wearing seatbelts. Their names are not being released. All four of the trailers were empty.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
