Governor Kristi Noem

Governor Kristi Noem is upping the stakes in a dispute with two Native American tribes regarding check-points leading into South Dakota’s reservations. She's asked the tribes to remove those checkpoints on state and federal highways that cross their reservations.  But, she says, despite the state's efforts to get the tribes to comply with that request, there still has been no action taken to remove them.

The governor has asked the attorney general’s office to investigate the checkpoints....

Noem says that she has sent the information that has been gathered so far to Washington, asking them for their assistance in resolving the matter......

Noem says that eveyone is encouraged to go to the website COVID.SD.GOV to see the related documentation.

So far, the Oglala Sioux and Cheyenne River Sioux are standing firm.
