South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem delivered the State of the State Address to the 96th Session of the South Dakota Legislature on Tuesday

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem delivered her 'State of the State' Address as the 96th Session of the South Dakota Legislative session began in Pierre on Tuesday.  The Governor began by saying  2020 was a “year for the history books”, referring to the challenges the state has faced during the past year……  

Noem said one of her priorities is to grow South Dakota, while encouraging others to move to the state to raise their families and grow their businesses.  Noem, saying her administration continues to help in that effort, highlighted projects that the state has assisted with during the past year…..

The Governor also spent time speaking about the importance of family and the value of every life. She introduced two families, each who have a child diagnosed with Down Syndrome.  The Governor said she will be introducing legislation to ban abortions of a preborn child, just because they are diagnosed with Down Syndrome……

During her address, Governor Noem also spoke about the importance of establishing Broadband access across the state....

The Governor addressed the four technical colleges in the state.....

The Build Dakota and Premier Scholarships were also addressed by the Governor.  Noem asked the legislators for their support of the newly created PREMIER Scholarship……

The Governor said South Dakota remains in a much stronger financial position than many other states in the country. She said that other states that shut down are now looking at tax increases or drastic spending cuts to make ends meet….

Before ending the Governor took a few moments to thank her family for their support and told the legislators that she looked forward to working with them and all of South Dakota’s leaders to improve the state for the next generation.
