Hamlin County Sheriff

It’s that time of the year as morning temperatures drop into the single digits and getting into an ice-cold vehicle becomes a “not so fun” ritual for us living in South Dakota. Starting vehicles and allowing them to warm up is a common practice however, Hamlin County Sheriff Chad Schlotterbeck is discouraging vehicle owners from doing that after taking reports of vehicles being stolen in the county over the past few weeks.

Schlotterbeck says it only takes a few seconds for your car to disappear....

Schlotterbeck says fortunately all of the vehicles that have been reported stolen have been recovered so far.  He says these incidents serve as a good reminder that there is someone out there stealing cars....

If you have any information on the person responsible for the vehicle thefts, or if you see suspicious activity, you are asked to contact the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office at (605) 783-3232 or your local law enforcement.
