A well known Deadwood landmark is going to be opening its door again soon. The Midnight Star was formerly owned by actor Kevin Costner who purchased it back in 1989. Costner said he bought the casino because of his deep love for Deadwood and the Black Hills of South Dakota. Jakes a five-star restaurant was located in the upper level of the Midnight Star and movie memorabilia from Costner’s movies lined the walls. After 28 years of operation, Costner closed the doors in August of 2017 and the building has been for sale ever since.
Now a new company, Lamar Feed and Grain LLC, has stepped forward and bought the property with plans to re-open it. The purchase price is $1.6 million.
Roger Tellinghuisen is the spokesperson for the group of investors who purchased the building….
Tellinghuisen says that the group who bought the casino doesn’t plan to change its name, it’ll still be named the Midnight Star.
So how did a Feed and Grain company decide to buy a casino in Deadwood?
Tellinghuisen says it’s exciting to have the casino coming back on-line after sitting vacant for so long…..
No official opening date for the Midnight Star has been announced.
