Watertown, SD -- Watertown Mayor Sarah Caron appeared before the Watertown Municipal Utilities Board Monday to discuss the annual transfer amount to the city’s general fund. She said that, of the city’s 18 different funds, the utilities department is the largest. The mayor said the utility department’s funds was pegged at 47 million dollars last year versus the city’s 52 million. She stated that someday the utility department’s funds will surpass all of the other 17 city funds, put together. She says it’s a changing world and with shrinking revenues she’s hopeful the utility department would negotiate for a bigger transfer.
She said it was a fair ask from the utilities department who, she says, has a reserve. The request was sent to the utility board's rates and transfers committee who will make a recommendation at their October meeting.
