Watertown, SD -- Here are more details involving the three-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. 212 at the S curves 10 miles west of Watertown Tuesday evening at 9:45 PM. The accident happened near mile marker 367.
Vehicle No. 1: 1991 Chevy Tahoe
Driver: Steven Kennedy, 66, Mitchell
Transported to Watertown hospital
Charges pending and he was wearing a seatbelt
Vehicle No. 2: 2011 Chevy K1500 pulling boat on boat trailer
Driver: Male, 49
No Injuries and he also was wearing a seatbelt
Passenger: Male, 39
This individual was also wearing a seatbelt
Vehicle No. 3: 2017 Chevy Silverado Pickup
Driver: Ross Burchatz, 53, Watertown
Was wearing a seatbelt
The Highway Patrol is lead agency and is investigating.
They state in their report that the Tahoe was westbound on US 212 when it crossed the center line and struck the boat trailer of the eastbound Chevy K1500 at the S curves on US 212. The K1500 came to rest on US 212’s eastbound shoulder. The Tahoe continued traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, causing the Chevy Silverado pickup to swerve into the south ditch to avoid a head-on collision. The Silverado rolled several times. The Highway Patrol hasn't yet determined if the Tahoe struck the Silverado. All four people involved were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol is thought to be a factor.
