Early Wednesday morning at approximately 12:04 am Watertown Police, and Watertown Fire Rescue were called to the intersection of 31st Street SE and the 9th Ave. SE service road in response to a single vehicle roll over crash involving a 2007 Honda Civic driven by a 17 year old male.

The Honda was traveling westbound in the 3100 block of the service road on the north side of 9th Ave. SE. The Honda traveled through the intersection at 31st Street SE and went off the roadway on the west side of the T-intersection. After leaving the roadway the Honda struck a guard rail and two utility boxes before overturning in the ditch. The Honda came to rest on its roof. The driver admitted to being distracted by his cell phone at the time of the crash.

The 17 year old male driver was the sole occupant of the Honda and was evaluated at the scene by Watertown Fire Rescue. No major injuries were sustained and the male was not transported by ambulance. Alcohol and marijuana were found inside the vehicle. The driver was found not to be impaired at the time of the crash.

The Honda is estimated to be a total loss. The vehicle crash is currently under investigation by the Watertown Police Department.

The teen was charged with texting while driving, possession of marijuana, underage possession of alcoholic beverages and open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.
