A 44 year old Pine Ridge, South Dakota man has pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. Shane Tyon the sentenced to 19 1/2 years in federal prison followed by 10 years of supervised release.
Authorities say that between November 2017 and September of 2018, Tyon obtained multiple pounds of methamphetamine from a Colorado source on numerous occasions. The methamphetamine was then transported from Colorado to the Pine Ridge reservation, where it was distributed by Tyon to other individuals who then sold it further.
The case was investigated by the Badlands Safe Trails Task Force which includes the FBI, Bureau of Indian affairs, Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Martin, SD Police Department.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's office. Tyon Was immediately remanded to the custody of the US marshal service to begin serving his 19 1/2-year sentence.
