A group of Truck Drivers plan to hold a demonstration on I-29 this morning to protest problems facing the trucking industry in hopes of getting leaders in their industry to take notice. The protest is a local response to a demonstration that is taking place in Washington, DC this week.
They drivers are protesting for more flexible working hours, relaxed rules on electronic logging devices and more training for new drivers. The group will have a “Slow Roll” on I-29 starting at 7AM before making their way to Pierre.
KXLG news contacted the South Dakota Highway Patrol who advised that the group has kept them advised of their plans and they will be able to respond as needed if something unexpected happens.
The trucks will be driving near the minimum speed limit during their trip to Pierre.
