Watertown, SD -- On 7-4-19 at approximately 1647 a Codington County Deputy attempted a traffic stop of a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage in the area east of Exit 180 of I-29. Upon attempting the traffic stop this Mitsubishi failed to stop and proceeded at a high rate of speed on several gravel roads in the area of 167th St and 458th Ave. Deputies continued pursuit of the vehicle as it traveled southbound on 460th Ave towards US 212. Spike strips were deployed by another Codington Deputy just north of the intersection of US 212 on 460th Ave. Spike strip deployment was successful and the suspect vehicle traveled a short distance after turning westbound onto US 212 where all three occupants were taken into custody without incident. The driver of the vehicle was identified as, Lucas Johnson(9-15-1984), passengers Jesse Feickert(4-19-1983) and Emily Hinrichs(9-29-2000) were uninjured from the pursuit. Feickert has several outstanding warrants ranging from Felony Drugs, Felony Assault and Felony DUI. Many items of criminal activity were discovered in the vehicle; burglary tools, stolen checkbooks, and fraudulent IDs were just some of the items confiscated from this suspect vehicle.

Once at the Codington County Detention Center, Lucas was booked for Aggravated Eluding (SDCL 32-33-18.2), Possession of a Forged Instrument with Intent to Defraud (SDCL 22-39-38), Possession of Stolen Property (Felony) (SDCL 22-30A-7), Possession of Marijuana (less than two ounces) (SDCL 22-42-6), Reckless Driving (SDCL 32-24-1), and Stop Sign Violation (SDCL 32-29-2.1). Bond was set at $10000 cash surety. And remains in custody in the Codington County Detention Center.

Jesse was booked for Possession of a Forged Instrument with Intent to Defraud (SDCL 22-39-38), Possession of Stolen Property (Felony) (SDCL 22-30A-7), Possession of Marijuana (less than two ounces) (SDCL 22-42-6), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (SDCL 22-42A-3) Bond is set at $17,575 cash surety and remains in custody in the Codington County Detention Center.

Emily was booked for Possession of a Forged Instrument with Intent to Defraud (SDCL 22-39-38), Possession of Stolen Property (Felony) (SDCL 22-30A-7), Possession of a Controlled Substance (SDCL 22-42-5), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (SDCL 22-42A-3) Bond was set $5000 Cash Surety and remains in custody in the Codington County Detention Center.

More charges are pending on these suspects as investigation is ongoing and it is believed more fraud victims will be identified through the ongoing investigation by the Sheriff’s Office
