The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues their investigation this morning into a two-vehicle crash that happened on I-29 at mile marker 190. That is approximately 13 miles North of Watertown. The accident happened at 9:41 AM yesterday morning. According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, two vehicles, a 2013 Chevy Tahoe and a 2017 Dodge Nitro were both traveling southbound on I-29.
The Tahoe, driven by 55-year-old Kathy Sykora of Browns Valley, Minnesota attempted to pass the Dodge Nitro, but rear ended the Nitro instead. That impact caused the Nitro to enter the center median and the Tahoe the west ditch.
The 71-year-old male driver of the Nitro suffered minor injuries and was transported to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System. He was the only occupant in his vehicle. Sykora was not injured in the crash and is facing charges as a result of this incident.
