Watertown Regional Airport

The Watertown Regional Airport terminal project remains on track with an anticipated January 2022 opening date. The Airport broke ground on the new $20 million, 25,000 square foot terminal building on November 4th of last year.

During their regular board meeting on Monday afternoon, the airport board heard an update on the project. They were told that footings and the foundation have been poured and builders are now awaiting the arrival of steel around the end of January to begin the next phase of the project. In the meantime, work is continuing on the new terminal at its new location which is northeast of where the existing terminal is currently located.

Because of the pandemic, the airport saw a large reduction in the amount of passengers during 2020. There were 7,225 enplanements, a decrease of 4,400 enplanements from the previous year, which represented a 69% decrease in air travelers. According to airport manager Todd Syhre, the decrease in travelers was not surprising.…

During the board meeting, members were also told that in addition to the 12,000 gallon tank the airport already has, the new 20,000 gallon fuel tank had been installed.  This addition opens the door for more commercial flights at the airport…..

The board also reviewed the FAA Tech Ops Agreement in the amount of $185,034.00, Syhre explained……

That agreement must now go to the City Council for further consideration.
