Watertown Fire Rescue

Shortly after 1am Monday morning, Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched to an apartment building fire as 15 3rd Street SE, the Ritz Apartments.  When firefighters arrived on-scene people where exiting the building and reporting that smoke was coming from the second floor.

Watertown Battalion Chief Tyler McElhaney says that firefighters made entry into the room and discovered two couches and a mattress that had been burning. Firefighters extinguished them and then ventilated the apartment using large fans.

McElhaney said the evacuated residents were allowed back inside their apartments after about 2 hours.  Nobody was in the apartment at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
