CODINGTON COUNTY SHOOTING UPDATE:
Wallace, SD -- On 7/7/19 at approximately 1:50 am Codington County Deputies and the South Dakota Highway Patrol responded to 16002 438th Ave Wallace SD, for an assault call involving a gunshot wound. Upon arrival Deputies spoke to Austin Anderson (22) of Watertown, whom had a gun shot wound to his leg. The injuries were non-life-threatening injuries. Austin was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital by the Watertown Ambulance.
Ed Becking was having a gathering at 16002 438th Ave. Anderson showed up and was forced to leave two times. Anderson came back to the property and assaulted another person. The people at the gathering broke up the assault and Anderson made a fire arm gesture towards them while running away into the woods. Ed Becking later found Anderson near a tree line on the property and Anderson made a statement about possibly being armed and reached into his waist belt. Becking fired upon Anderson while retreating striking Anderson in the thigh.
Edward Becking (29) of rural Wallace was arrested for Aggravated Assault for the shooting. Austin Anderson was arrested for Aggravated Assault for the assault that occurred earlier in the evening Austin. He was also arrested for trespassing. Edward Becking’s bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety and bonded out of the Codington County Detention Center. Austin Anderson was granted a personal recognizance bond with conditions of 24/7 and no contact with victims and was released at the hospital.
