The Watertown City Council took action at Monday night’s meeting to approve a Memorandum of Understanding between the City and the Watertown Police Officers Association (WPOA) which allows for an additional Police Training Officer (PTO) to be added to the current existing group of four. The position is an assignment within the agency and is not a new patrol position.
Watertown Assistant Police Chief Tim Toomey explained that the department is adding several new officers and that is putting a burden on the four trainers they currently have……
The police training officers, by contract, receive an additional $32.00 a month assignment pay through this year. That will be increased to $65.00 a month next year.
Toomey said the request to add an additional training officer can be absorbed by the existing police department budget, so there would not be an added expense by adding the assignment. The council voted unanimously to approve the request.
