The 27th Annual Make-A –Wish South Dakota event was held at the Watertown Event Center Friday night. It was attended by several hundred people all there to help make dreams come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Geri Likness is one of the organizers of the event and she says that Northeastern South Dakota really stepped up again this year…
Two checks were presented to Make-A-Wish South Dakota by area businesses.
WW Tire representatives presented a check to Make-A-Wish for $40,000…..
Glacial Lakes Harley Davidson and The Dakota Sioux Casino teamed up and presented a check in the amount of $14,454.00 to Make-A-Wish…..
A total amount raised at this year’s event was not yet available, however organizers say they are pleased with the generosity this year.
One of those receiving his wish this year was 17 year-old Mason Maag. Mason was diagnosed with Aortic Valve Stenosis, which is a condition that causes the Heart’s Aortic Valve to Narrow. It required him to undergo two heart surgeries resulting in a double heart valve replacement. This past July Mason received his wish, a custom made Ice Castle Fish Shack.
Mason’s mom said it was a great partnership that helped to make Mason’s wish come true…..
The Make-A-Wish organizers would like to thank the volunteers, donors and those who attended the event on Friday night for their continued support of the event. Likness says they are already hard at work planning next year’s event. And yes, Mason received his wish and many others will now receive theirs as well. As for Mason… well he’s pretty happy that his wish was granted. And he says, he’s ready to go ice fishin’…..
