It’s estimated that over 95 million Americans hit the roads around Christmas and New Year’s Day each year. With that comes an increase in traffic, accidents and DUI Arrests. However, in Watertown that wasn’t the case this year. Assistant Chief of Police Tim Toomey says this year was a good one for travelers….

Toomey says that more law enforcement on the roadways along with public education campaigns is key in helping to keep those numbers low.
South Dakota State Officials reported one fatality during the holiday reporting period. Statewide the number of fatalities for 2019 is down from 2018. The exact number hasn’t been released yet, however they say they expect this year’s number to be substantially below 2018’s tally of 130 deaths.
